Summer Love

It’s flirty, it’s cute and adorable
It’s young with a twinge of innocence
Is this puppy love?
So very stereotypical…
Yet kind of romantic anyway
But in a week’s time, it will vanish. Just like that.
Bid your farewells for this fleeting, flirty fling
Everything's gone without a trace by morning
Until then, summers thereafter

JDoll

Mrs. Doll,

Your sense of humor brightens up the class. Little jokes ranging from the blue footed booby’s mating ritual to air conditioning resembling cristae help lift the weight of a heavy workload. Yet, so much is still learned in the process. This is the ultimate combination between work and fun, and you’ve accomplished that.

To: Mrs. Doll

You’re a friend to the environment—recycling,
turning off lights not in use, hating smokers, etc.
It’s not wonder you’re the plant lady. You are
preserving the world we live in; now that’s smart.

Mrs. Doll’s M&M’s

It’s ok to have OCD. In fact, being organized and systematic promotes efficiency and gives a professional impression. I would have sorted out the colors for you beforehand, but then sanitation would come to question.

Mrs. Doll,

Although teachers do not know everything, you know a good deal. If a problem comes up about biology, you practically always know the answer. In your class, I learned so much—and I mean really learn, because the knowledge is not forgotten right after the test. Out of my other subjects, I feel the most prepared for college in biology.

Mrs. Doll,
I am so glad I took AP Biology last year. There was a time when I did think I should have taken Honors Biology 2, but soon that changed. If I could go back in time, I would not change the experiences in AP Biology. Thank you for such a great (it feels as though “great” is an understatement) year. Also, thank you for writing so many recommendation letters for me. You were always the first of my teachers to finish the letters. That not only completed my applications faster, but also reminded me of the busy, bustling schedule of my junior year. Despite all the work, I somehow still loved your class. Your students this year probably feel the same way. I know that some of your AP Biology students this year wanted to choose you for teacher appreciation week. It was an honor to do the teacher appreciation week for you (not going to lie, I was pretty excited…).

Sincerely,
Cynthia Chen

Waiting

Laziness is an awful attitude to embody
It is contagious and certainly has plagued me on multiple occasions
Patience, on the other hand, is a virtue
However, to accomplish being patient, one essentially does nothing
Appears to be a facile task to master, does it not?
So why, oh why, is doing nothing so difficult?
Anticipation has my body itching to leap into the future

The same Time that often hurries by now remains stagnant
The days drag on agonizingly as I grow ancient

Impression

Sit up taller, walk with confidence and perhaps some swag.
Embrace borderline cockiness, but don’t brag.
Conduct speech with radiant energy, but with modest, realistic views.
Look into his eyes and note the various hues.
Smile genuinely and listen to him muse.
Be intelligent; be alert and alive.
Utilize all the methods you can contrive
In an attempt to converse casually.
It is best not to stray far from your true self, usually.
Some may claim that first impressions are shallow,
But in immature nonsense, society tends to wallow.
So I play at this game, shooting for the win.
Executing an effortless show, I conjure up a grin.
I have left my mark; I will be remembered.

To Know Someone

Time away, time spent apart
A relation is stored on top of a dusty shelf

Alone.

Subtly fading in the corner—withering slowly into empty air
Merely a translucent memoir, an illusory ghost of an image
Disappeared and simply forgotten
What once was is no more
