Irony

Irony is a funny thing
Mere coincidences
That can make me laugh, plant a smirk on my face
But this time around,
Only a sigh escapes from my lips
This time around,
It’s a different kind of irony
The kind where intentions are to impress and wow
And yet my actions only resulted in disappointment
Without a single comment on my progress
Why did I even bother
Irony is not a funny thing
Not today,
Not this time around

Mask

I wake up to a new morning.
What should I wear today?
How am I feeling today?
If only those two could be answered harmoniously.
Whether I am sad, angry, or sluggish,
A poker face may not be good enough here.
I will need a solid mask—
A strong, happy mask that is.
Happiness is contagious.
It can spread a smile onto even a stranger’s face.
I shall wear a smile today.

The Joys of Shopping

Go shopping? Why yes, please
Get my wallet and grab the keys
I enter the store and cold air blasts into my face
Sections of garments are presented in an open space
Ooo look, this dress is shiny! and oh! This one has lace!
Over and over again my heart does a little race
Inhale a breath as I see something I desire
My eyes gleam with joy—especially if it’s low price
If I said my feet didn’t ache, I’d be a liar
For my exercise today, this will suffice
Left before eating breakfast, and totally forgot about lunch
Yet browsing each isle is enough to feed me
Sucked into this addiction, is my hunch
A pained wallet is often the fee

Spinning and turning like a princess at a ball
The mirror is my audience on the wall
My mom and cousin critique in the fitting room
Shopping with friends is fun,
but I like shopping with my mother the best of all :)
